Designing Immersive Environments

Instructors: Jeff Leinenveber and Jarrett Lantz, Co-Creative Directors of Scout Expedition Co.

Location: Classroom B

In immersive attractions, the environment is more than just a collection of set pieces – it’s a full-fledged character of its own! Whether you’re developing your own immersive theater production or haunt, or you’re just a fan, learn how to create physical environments that audiences will remember.

Jeff Leinenveber and Jarrett Lantz, Co-Creative Directors of Scout Expedition Co., share lessons from their show “The Nest,” and previous work in themed entertainment and immersive theater. Learn about the design process, from research, to writing, to concept art, to production. They’ll also discuss how to convey story through physical objects, use the design of a space to affect audience psychology, balance creative goals with operational requirements, and flip design challenges into storytelling opportunities.
