An elimination style battle between horror and Halloween icons!
Requirements:
- 2 players.
- 10 or more cards (to be shared between players, or minimum 5 cards each).
- A six sided dice
- Paper and pen or pencil (to keep track of hit points)
The game takes place over a series of rounds where characters battle. Losing cards are eliminated from play, while winning cards are set aside for a future battle.
Each player selects 5 cards (either from their own deck or shared deck). Do not show the card to the other player.
At the start of a round, each player selects a card from their hand. Cards are simultaneously played face up on the table. Each player reads out any special abilities listed on the card, which may impact the below course of play.
The card with the higher “JUMP SCARE” is the ATTACKER; the opposing card is the DEFENDER. (If the values between the cards match, each player rolls the dice once – higher roll is the attacker.)
The ATTACKER then has has two choices: COMBAT or SORCERY
COMBAT
- The ATTACKER rolls the dice and adds the number to their LETHALITY value to determine their ATTACK score.
- The DEFENDER rolls the dice and adds the number to their DEFENSE value to determine their DEFENSE score.
- If the ATTACK score is lower than the DEFENSE score, the ATTACKER has missed and roles switch.
- If the ATTACK score is higher than the DEFENSE score, subtract the DEFENSE score from the ATTACK score.
- Deduct this number from the DEFENDER’s hit points.
SORCERY
- The ATTACKER rolls the dice and adds the number to their SORCERY value to determine their ATTACK score.
- The DEFENDER rolls the dice and adds the number to their SORCERY value to determine their DEFENSE score.
- If the ATTACK score is lower than the DEFENSE score, the ATTACKER has missed and roles switch.
- If the ATTACK score is higher than the DEFENSE score, the ATTACKER has two choices.
- They can refill their hit points back to the original value on the card.
- OR They can swap the current card in their hand out for another card.
If the DEFENDER has hit points remaining after a COMBAT or SORCERY round, roles switch, and they become the ATTACKER.
Once any card reaches zero hit points, the card is eliminated and that player chooses a new card from their hand.
The game ends when one player’s cards are completely eliminated. The player with any cards remaining is the winner of the game!
