David Markland created CreepyLA: the Los Angeles Halloween blog in 2005 while yearning for a reason to explore seasonal events and write about local ghost stories and other weird SoCal history. In 2013 he combined his background in live event production with the contacts he’d made in horror entertainment and haunted attractions to create ScareLA, growing the event from 3000 to 8000 attendees in three years. In 2016 he co-founded Midsummer Scream, which reached an estimated attendance of over 30,000 guests in 2019, and continues to this day (aside from needing to take a break in 2020 due to the pandemic).
